Hello Kitty Daily (Nintendo DS) - Review by jofra01
Introduction
From my understanding Hello Kitty is huge in Japan and somewhat popular with younger females. Having a wide enough franchise including several games 'Hello Kitty Daily' is the latest game within the franchise. Thing is though that Hello Kitty Daily can easily be regarded as a non-game on a gaming handheld that is aimed to small demographic of gaming community.
Gameplay
Hello Kitty Daily is a somewhat hard game to review due to the fact it actually offers the gamer nothing to play. Instead this is a title that can be regarded as interactive diary, or journal to some, that likes to keep track of all your details. When I first played the game I didn't know what I was going to expect and it asked me questions like what is my name, date of birth and other similar things but when it asked me what my blood type was I became a little worried with this game.
Once the game had my profiled my whole life I was then thrown into a room with a Hello Kitty and found I could interact with some items, to a certain degree. This however was when I realised that I wouldn't be going on an adventure or playing minigames but rather filling in my timetable with when I would be having classes. Other things you could find yourself doing include using a calculator to find a solution to those challenging mathematical problems or maybe keeping track of your allowance. Other things you were allowed to do was mark special occasions in your diary and keep little memos or notes.
Controls
Using the stylus for pretty much everything in the game gamers will find that they will control no kitty within this title. Instead gamers will use the stylus to interact with things a room and choose what they want to do. When it comes to actually writing something in your diary or putting down a memo instead of using the stylus to write things, like most gamers would have you do, you use a stylus on keyboard. Although this might not make it as fun to put things in the diary like some little pictures you draw it does make the writing a lot easier to read and make understanding of.
Graphics
For what the game does offer and what you would expect from a Hello Kitty title the game is a high levels in terms of graphics. However if you compare to games that are more high profiled and action packed then the 2D graphics are seen as rather average. The game is completely in 2D and the actual items you use and the room you live within are detailed better than what some would expect. Though the game does have it's problems as there is really nothing animated to cause more of a visual treat.
Sound
The game does contain in music and sound which can be seen as a nice addition for something that can't be considered as a real game. Nothing memorable or outstanding has been included though as gamers will usually find themselves using this title maybe for 10 minutes everyday anyway to keep track of things.
Dual screen
Seeing how everything is pretty much controlled with the stylus things you interact with, keyboards and other items are in the bottom screen. If you plan on placing an entry in the diary or in putting a birthday then you will find that what you input will be on the top screen while the rest is on the bottom. This of course is a good layout so that everything is squished up together.
Final comments
Hello Kitty Daily isn't a game but a something to keep track of your life. Gamers should ignore this completely and only those that are extreme Hello Kitty fans or for a young female looking for an alternative to a diary that can keep track of their life and more then this is a game you could consider. Other than that your probably best off using just a notepad for the things this game offers.
