WII Microphone Already Present In Wiimote?

CNN Money's Fortune has conducted a small investigation on the Wii Remote and came to the conclusion that we already possess a microphone.

In the past, a few titles for the Wii system were said to include voice-recording features. High School Musical: SuperStar Karaoke allows players to sing their way to the stars, while the rumoured Wii-version of Odama allows one to command the troops. Nonetheless, no-one ever spoke about the device needed for such actions. Will we be using a microphone attachment for the Wii Remote?

The answer to the question above may come from a small investigation by CNN Money's Fortune department. The team took one screwdriver and a Remote and came to the conclusion that the device already contains a small audio chip which purpose is to convert analog data (such as voice input) to a digital data stream. At present, such feature is not implemented by any title, but of course Nintendo would not pay 2 dollars for a useless chip.

  • We knows already that because Nintendo said that we could attach an external microphone on the Wiimote's back. The peripherals for the Wiimote won't be only the nunchuk and the classic controller.

  • Then why the chip?

  • VOIP perhaps? Its been long suggested that that might be possible with the Wiimote so maybe thats why the chip is there. It would make talking to people when Aminal Crossing comes out on Wii a hell of a lot easier. Just look at what happened with it on ds. Its a pain in the ass to type stuff out on that.
