ALL Remington Great American Bird Hunt - Five questions no-one dared to ask

When Remington Great American Bird Hunt for Wii was first shown, many oldskool Duck Hunt-gamers wanted to know the same thing: can we shoot the dog in this game? No-one dared to ask the producer, so we jumped in...

With arcade-style scoring, an arsenal of authentic Remington shotguns, and more than 50 trophies and power-ups to earn, Remington Great American Bird Hunt is a fast-paced and fun take on the sport of bird hunting. Remington Great American Bird Hunt challenges players to hunt through 60 levels of birds including turkeys, ducks, grouse and pheasants.

Earlier this month, the first images of Remington Great American Bird Hunt for Wii were released to the public. At that point a hunting dog was revealed and many gamers were reminded of the well-known dog from the NES' Duck Hunt, and wondered: ca we shoot the dog with this game?

As no-one dared to ask a question such as the above (among others), we took the chance and asked Bill Swartz, head woof at Mastiff, ourselves. Below are Bill's answers to the five questions no-one dared to ask...

Question 1) What makes this different from other shooting games?

Bill: Remington Great American Bird Hunt walks two sides of the street at the same time.

On the one hand, its a fast paced, fun, multi-player shooting game that will appeal to anyone who likes shooting galleries. 60 stages, 50+ items and awards, there's plenty of content.

But its also a bird hunting simulation, with only the boring parts removed (waiting 20 minutes between shots in a pixel forrest may be real but its not fun). Real weapons, real species that behave appropriately, items and situations that make sense in bird hunting. Non hunters won't care, probably even won't notice. Hunters will notice and care in a big way.

Question 2) Is there any chance of a DSi version in the future?

Bill: Where there's life there's hope

Question 3) In Nintendo's Duck Hunt we all wanted to shoot the dog. Unfortunately Nintendo made sure we couldn't. Seeing a dog in the recently released screenshots makes us wonder: will we be able to shoot the dog?

Bill: The Nintendo dog was a huge PITA (ed: Pain In The A..) whose owner-mocking attitude motivated many decent people to contemplate dogicide. Rockford, your four legged buddy in our game, is your partner. He helps you out, he hangs, he's great. No decent person would want to harm him. And for the monsters who would think about ruffling his fur - sorry, no, not in my game. Go back to pulling wings off flies, losers.

Question 4) The game is based on shooting all sorts of birds. How do organisations such as PETA respond on this towards the developer or publisher?

Bill: I'm guessing they're against it. However, I was at KFC over the weekend. I asked the bucket of extra crispy what it though, and it promised to pick up a copy. So I guess it's kind of a toss-up.

Question 5) Will Dick Cheney be featured in-game?

Bill: No, but we've had several inquiries from third parties interested in making a Dick Cheney branded flack jacket peripheral.

DS-x2.com would like to thank Bill Swartz for answering our questions (as strange as they might be), and wish Mastiff all the best with the upcoming release of Remington Great American Bird Hunt.
