The Last Story - First Trailer
The first trailer, complete with gameplay footage, for Mistwalker's upcoming Wii exclusive RPG, The Last Story, has surfaced and it's looking good.
Announced at the start of the year, the latest project from the creator of the Final Fantasy series Hironobu Sakaguchi and development studio Mistwalker has finally surfaced, after seeing nothing but screenshots in Japanese game magazines and some artwork, and we've provided it for your viewing pleasure.
Very few details are know about the game's story however it is known that the game will focus heavily on the theme of human emotion and will be set on an island known as Ruli Island, ruled over by a feudal lord called Earl Alganon.
Combining a unique form of gameplay in the form real time combat and a cover system, the latter of which is something never before seen in an RPG, and a visual style that looks to be making the most of everything available to the Wii, it looks like Wii owners will have a truly unique RPG experience to call their own.
The game is currently set for release in Japan by the end of the year. No talk of a release outside of Japan has been made at this moment. However, with Nintendo taking up publishing duties, it does seem more likely that the title will eventually hit our shores at some point next year. Stay tuned to DS-x2 for more news when it becomes available.

Woo, I have been waiting for this game for years, ever since the rumor that Mistwalker is working on a secret project after Cry On was cancelled.
I will say it does look fantastic. And yet the gameplay looks rather strange, especially for an RPG coming out of a Japanese studio. Seems like a hybrid of Western and Japanese mechanics in play which is a good thing. Anyway, just hope NoE greenlight this one for release here at some point next year. I know I'd buy it.
Final Fantasy has always been about change. FF1 - traditional D&D style; FF2 - first RPG with scripted characters; FF3 - class change; FF4 - active time battle, space dungeon, and weapon change; FF5 - crystal and skill system; FF6 - Esper equipment and character customization; FF7 - material customization of equipments; FF8 - dynamic enemies; Blue Dragon - time controlled attacks; Lost Odyssey - attack trigger; The Last Story - active battle and cover system. No two games from Hironobu Sakaguchi ever feels the same.
