Iwata Asks: Nintendogs & Cats
Nintendo have posted the latest in the interesting Iwata Asks series of interviews. Find out how Nintendogs was originally slated for the GameCube and how over a dozen versions were initially planned for the 3DS.
The latest Iwata Asks talks about how Shigeru Miyamoto initially proposed Nintendogs to be released on the GameCube as he "thought it would be fun to raise a pet in the television." However, it quickly became apparent that the Nintendo DS was a much more suitable system with it's stylus interaction as well as microphone use to command the dog to perform various tricks.
The latest iteration slated for the 3DS launch is also the first to introduce cats, though the trio made it very clear that the cats were secondary to the dogs - hence why the cats and the text itself is less prominently featured then the dogs. Miyamoto also mentioned that he wanted 16 versions of the game to be laid it in a 4x4 grid so when you walked into the store you would choose the dog you liked. The sales team rejected this idea, and I don't blame them! The initial 3 (later 4) versions were more than enough for the first Nintendogs.
