SEGA loses faith in 3DS?
If we judge from SEGA's recent financial reports, the industry giant has lost faith in the Nintendo 3DS.
SEGA's recent financial reports holds, as usual, a summary of their expected releases for the next year. During fiscal year 2013, SEGA plans to release 40 games in total. The share of Nintendo 3DS games in this list however, is limited to a mere 3 titles.
PS Vita, Sony's competitive handheld, may expect more support from SEGA next year: 8 titles in total. With this number, Sony's handheld gets eight more titles than Nintendo's Wii. That's right: there are NO titles planned for Wii (nor regular Nintendo DS) in the next fiscal year. Although this may seem a bit rigorous, keep in mind that Nintendo is planning to release the WiiU as well. SEGA has not yet fabricated any numbers on expected releases on WiiU, but of course we already know of SEGA's Aliens: Colonial Marines.

It looks like SEGA will be focusing their efforts on the eShop and Virtual Console as it's far less of a risk. They also have a huge back catalogue to tap in to.
Yet, they are developing 11 titles on Vita. I don't think risk aversion is what they are looking for.
Good point, especially developing for the Vita.
Not saying Vita is not a commercial viable system. However given PSP's track record, I don't expect Vita to have a decent market in Japan until next Christmas. Very little data will show how it will do in US since no handheld console have ever been a threat to Nintendo in US. Also, Sega is skipping Gamescom. It's unknown whether the two is exclusive event.
