Ubisoft missed new console every 5 years
According to Yves Guillemot, CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft, missing a new console every five years has paid its toll on creativity, or so a recent interview points out.
Our colleagues from Gamasutra recently held an interview with Yves Guillemot. During that interview, the CEO of Ubisoft claims that he missed having a new console every five years. "We have been penalized by the lack of new consoles on the market. I understand the manufacturers don't want them too often because it's expensive, but it's important for the entire industry to have new consoles because it helps creativity."
According to the industry giant, it is easier for Ubisoft to create new IPs and products at the beginning of a new generation, as the customer is more open to new things: the customer is reopening their minds, Yves claims. Nearing the end of a generation, such as is the case with the current generation consoles, people won't buy new stuff as much.
Guillemot continued praising Nintendo for their upcoming Wii U. "I think Nintendo has very often surprised us, so you never know," he says. "I think they've created something good, if the customer uses everything they have created, I think we can see a good success with that machine. That type of collaboration can be fun and also challenging at the same time. It's something has never been done before. ... Those guys are taking lots of risks with the games they create -- and they're extremely successful."
