Insomniac Games considers Wii U "current-gen"
Insomniac Games is not working on any Wii U titles at the moment, and regards the console as "current gen" compared to what Sony and Microsoft are bringing in soon.
Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games (best known for their work on Fuse, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance), has put down some somewhat harsh words on Nintendo's latest console, the Wii U. On bulletin board Reddit, the Price has a small Q&A session with the visitors. When asked "[his] thoughts on next gen consoles? The new one from MS, PS4 and WII-U.", Price responded:
"Wii-U is something I'd consider more current gen - but we're not working on games for it.
When it comes to PS4 I'm excited that they seem to lowering barriers for independent developers. It's cool to see almost weekly announcements from Sony explaining how they're opening things up for indies. And of course I'm very excited to see what Microsoft announces soon."
This quote comes at a bad timing, after Electronic Arts disclosed that the Wii U cannot run their Frostbite 3 engine and therefore will (probably) be left out from upcoming titles such as Battlefield 4 or Mass Effect 4. This news accompanying the disappointing sales of the console raises the question with many gamers: is Wii U done for already, or can Nintendo's first-party titles still save the console?
