The latest edition of EDGE magazine reveals a few new details on the Nintendo DS going 'online'.
EDGE has four interesting fragments which hint at the Nintendo DS going online.
Of course, voice chat using the Nintendo DS would only make sense if gamers aren't near each other."Other than the game announcements, what was perhaps most exciting about the Tokyo event was the range of possibilities discussed for DS's technological future. Many ideas are still to be designed and tested, but the first to come out of prototyping should be wireless voice chat - and protocols are already being designed by Nintendo. This could be an important step for the machine, in light of Japan's typically rapid adoption of wireless"
Using your home PC as a gateway, the DS would be able to connect to the Internet. Combined with the browsing interface, you'd be able to read our latest news on your Nintendo DS."Other companies are already developing internet browsing interfaces and protocols, and Bandai revealed that it already has the DS successfully interacting with PCs."
Just like we already suspected after Shin'en revelaing the Internet highscore for Nanostray, companies are already investigating the possibilities to create online multiplaying options which you can connect to in order to play your games with millions of people."Square Enix also intimated that it is experimenting with enabling the device to interact with it's own PlayOnline service (which supports Final Fantasy XI among other titles)"
Games will probably not be restricted to 8-player multiplay (unless the developer makes this his choice). Massive multiplaying anyone?"other developers confirmed they already have 32-machine networks operational, a massive step up from the conservative eight players Nintendo is currently willing to guaruntee."
