MechAssault DS confirmed
Majesco Entertainment announces that MechAssault: Phantom War is heading to the Nintendo DS. Update First screenshots have arrived.
Today Majesco announced that they are bringing the MechAssault franchise to the DS with MechAssault: Phantom War.
"MechAssault: Phantom War fuses the best game play elements from the series with new features that take advantage of the unique mechanics of the Nintendo DS," said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco Entertainment. "The touch screen lets players intuitively 'touch' the cockpit controls to hack into giant 'Mechs, eject pilots, switch weapons and check battle techniques."
Developed by Backbone Entertainment, who recently finished the DS turn-based strategy version of Age of Empires, MechAssault: Phantom War brings the franchise to the DS in a third-person futuristic shooter. Players assume the role of a MechWarrior, an elite fighter trained to control the ultimate war machine of the 32nd century, the BattleMech. Gamers experience fast-action, 3D combat on the top screen, while the lower touch screen positions them inside the cockpit at the controls.
Features:
- Command over 20 types of vehicles, including 'Mechs, Tanks, Turret and BattleArmor;
- Wreak havoc on the enemy and environment with an arsenal of powerful, fully upgradeable weapons;
- Brand new story drawn from the popular BattleTech series which spawned highly successful games like MechWarrior & MechCommander for the PC and MechAssault & Crimson Skies for the Xbox video game system.
- Use the touch screen to sneak into enemy territory, hijack enemy 'Mechs and wield the most secret weapon in the Inner Sphere;
- Wireless multiplayer combat for up to four players simultaneously;
- Master 24 single player campaigns across four planets and three exciting multiplayer game types;
- Unlockable 'Mechs, maps and cheats enhance gameplay.

could be fun i guess
Neuro-Hacking is confirmed and the touch screen is to be redesigned for more use. There are 24 confirmed vehicles, that includes tanks, turrets, and battle armor. The pilots name is Vallen Bryce.
I am so getting this game for the Nintendo DS. Cause I had the MechAssault 2 Long wolf for XBox. And Loved it so much I kepted playing it. :) Can't wait for the boxart of the game now. :) Also -- www.nintendo-xs.com has some news on it as well.
Awsome!!!
It's not bad at all, though it needs online play.(I'm pretty sure everyone has stated that) I'm sure you'll be given an option to customise your mechs, using the stylus of course. I'm pretty sure the framerate will be slightly gritty -_-
There is actually a lot of screens, but I dunno where dennis got those unmarked ones.
If anyone cares, two new screens for this game: http://dsmedia.ign.com/ds/image/article/689/689127/mechassault-phantom-war-20060216113546299.jpg http://dsmedia.ign.com/ds/image/article/689/689127/mechassault-phantom-war-20060216113546877.jpg Enjoy! ^_^

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!!! I LOVE THIS GAME ON XBOX AND NOW THAT ITS COMIN TO DS I AM SO PRE-ORDERING.
Reminds me of Megaman 64 graphics-wise.
Pretty slick 3D
not bad, not bad. =)
Those shots look great!
No online? :(
Looks pretty average for a third person shooter....
Looks very boring.. not really been a big fan of Mech Assault
That engine seems good, but with online the game should be better. Bad that there will be only local wireless. Wonder if in the future will arrive the ARMORED CORE series on DS.
yeah, definitely an old 3D engine....
online owuld kick so much ass for this game... doesn tlook bad nonetheless tho
I hope they keep the "Neurohacking" aspect intact. That was sweet. I can just imagine it being a series of simple logic puzzles that you have to complete in a certain amount of time. The more you complete, the closer you come to stealing the mech. And in Multiplayer, you'd BOTH play the puzzles at the same time, and the person who finishes first or completes the most or something wins. :o omg.
looks ok i suppose
It looks lovely! And there is no question about MechWarrior 1 graphice - did you ever play that game? It's funny seeing 3D engines from the early 90's... It was an AMZING game though... I hope this lives up to my expectations. I'm buying it either way though!
Doens´t look bad at all... :) ...But what a waste of bottom screen.
No online, just the wireless link.
If only. I hope this is more like MechWarrior than Mech Assualt. Warrior was a far better series, and i bet the DS could probably pull of Mech Warrior 1 graphics you know...
