NDS Japanese Mario Kart DS Time Trial

Nintendo of Japan is hosting a time trial competition for their own Mario Kart DS.

Nintendo of Japan has opened up a minisite announcing a Time Trial competition for the Japanese gaming crowd. As many people like to brag about fast rounds and some even making up their own times, Nintendo came up with a solution to verify times submitted by gamers.

Unknown by many, Mario Kart DS features a button combination revealing a 16-characters long alphanumeric code for authentication purpose of Time Trial records. On the records screen for a specific track, entering the button combination of "Up - Down - L - R - Y - A" will reveal the 16-characters long code, which can be submitted to Nintendo of Japan in order to paricipate in the competition.

Whether or not Nintendo of America or Europe is also planning an event such as the above mentioned, remains unknown for the moment.

  • Unfortunately I couldn't test the button sequence yet myself on the EU version of the game. If anyone feels need to do so :)

  • The button combination works for me (Canada). But what does it mean exactly? Like, is there different codes for different times?

  • NoE should set up a challenge like this, or ONM.

  • Oh, it works for me too.

  • SwigGY: exactly. The code is basically information about the track and your time being encoded. As you don't know the exact algorithm on getting the code based on your time, it's almost impossible to submit a made-up time. :)
